The Royal Shakespeare Company declined this chance to debate with the British East Asian Artists group which had been critical of their casting for The Orphan of Zhao, a Chinese classic whose 17 roles included only three BEAs, and those were in minor parts: chiefly working a puppet dog, and playing a maid and a ghost child.
Dr Ashley Thorpe of Reading University chaired this roundtable discussion hosted by the Asian Performing Arts Forum; Taking part were Daniel York, Dr Amanda Rogers (Swansea University), Dr Broderick Chow (Brunel University) and Anna Chen.
